Sandy Spit in the British Virgin Islands

Sandy Spit Island

This small uninhabited island, also known as Sandy Spit, gets its name from being “spitting distance” to Jost Van Dyke. This tiny “islet” sits in the middle of the ocean just off the east end of Jost Van Dyke between Sandy Cay and Green Cay. Measuring a less than an acre, this island is a ring of white powdery sand and foliage.

Things to Do

Jump off the boat enjoy this sandy paradise with a cold beer in hand. Walk around the entire island in literally minutes. Look for hermit crabs or make sand angels. A little slice of heaven – remote and tranquil.

A 4-star reef just sits off the south side of the island. If the conditions are good, grab some fins, a mask, and a snorkel and explore. The reef inhabits beautiful fish and colorful corals.

The Island’s Claim to Fame

The island sets the scene in several Corona Commercials.

Captain’s Note:

If your day with us includes cruising over to Jost Van Dyke, add the British Virgin Island’s littlest gem to your itinerary. You will need to enter into the British Virgin Islands on Jost Van Dyke. Also, remember there are no restaurants, bars or bathrooms on Sandy Spit – totally uninhabited.
