Sydney’s Peace & Love Where You Are the Bartender
Located on the east end of Jost Van Dyke, British Virgin Islands in Little Great Harbour, this family-owned island bar boasts a beautiful view. Tarpon feed on tiny bait fish while pelicans dive bomb from above. Sydney’s Peace and Love has a finger licking, melt-in-your-mouth, lobster lunch, other types of tasty food, Painkillers, and yes, most notably, an honor bar. Make your way behind the bar and mix up your favorite drink just the way you like it because you are your own bartender at this paradise retreat!
The Famous Painkiller
When you arrive, ask the owner, Strawberry, for her famous tropical Painkiller. A specialty to the British Virgin Islands and like a Pina Colada, the Painkiller is a rich and fruity tropical drink mixture of rum, coconut, orange, and pineapple juice topped with grated nutmeg.
What’s on the Menu?
Sydney’s is a great place to feast on a true Caribbean lunch menu away from the crowds. This is THE place to enjoy a spiny Caribbean lobster, second to none conch fritters, and fresh snapper. Because the family catches the fish locally on a daily basis on their fishing boat, all of the fish on the menu is fresh and mouth-watering.
The Gift Shop
While you wait for lunch, pose for a picture with a lobster and browse in the various gift shops. The shops have a wide selection of shirts and island trinkets as souvenirs from your Caribbean vacation. Kim, who works in the first gift shop, loves braiding hair.
Most of all, Sydney’s Peace and Love is Captain Dusty’s favorite place on Jost Van Dyke. Certainly, Sydney’s is by far the most laid back part of the island. As the sun sets on the British Virgin Islands, Sydney’s becomes more lively when sailors arrive in Little Great Harbour.
CAPTAIN’S NOTE: Remember, tip your Bartenders and bring your passport!
